A submission from our Guest DT member for October....

Lisa Lofthouse - Untitled

It is one of my favourite pieces of artwork... I haven't titled it because it would look weird with a title!

Love your stitching Lisa, and that tree looks awesome. your stitched swirly moon looks great too!
Well done. - Shazza

Shazza's submission....

Shazza Bishop - Paris at Night

My take on 'Starry Night', a roof top view over Paris at night.

I tried to get a behind photo of my two cats 'Astro and Kimba' together... but do you think they would co-operate, not on your life, no amount af coaxing or tuna bribing would they sit together!! There's a saying 'never work with children or animals', now I understand why?!?

The cats are cut out of felt and I hand cut all the roof top buildings and then layered them to get the feeling of distance and height........ I enjoyed the inspiration from Van Gogh's art work :)

This next DT submission is from........

Renae Deguara - Diva

DIVA: love love love VAN GOGH!! ....all i can say is everything inspired me, colours, shapes and that dreamy feeling. TFL xx

Love this Renae, love the scrunched up background paper and how you have slid the photo throught the circle frame, excellent piece - Shazza

Next DT members submission is .........

Shelee Lark - Family is Everything
(One of our new Design Team members)

Here is my DT submission for October. I do hope you like it.
The cut out flowers from the Kaiser PP reminded me of starbursts
radiating in the sky like the Starry Night image, with a little
added bling on each to make them sparkle.

The main title also has a coat of Kindy Glitz on it but it
was hard to get this to show up in the photograph.

Shelee you have done well, your layout radiates the 'Starry Night' feel to it, I love your interpretation. A great artistic take submitted for your first month on the DT. Well done :)
- Shazza

Next up is.......

Amanda Taylor - Clean and Spunky

I took inspiration from the colours in the painting, and did some swiping and swirling with white paint cos thats what you initially see when you look at the painting, and used some circle and star charms because there are some circles at the top of the painting, had heaps of fun doing this thanks for the great challenge, I
hope you like it!

Great fresh layout Amanda. Love your swirls of paint representing the swirly sky. What a great pic of Connor.......just look at that adorable face!! Well done - Shazza

Next DT submission is.......

Michelle Winston - Track Stars

I was inspired by so many things in Van Goh’s Starry Night !
Did you know that he painted it whilst spending time in an asylum ???
Firstly, I drew on the painting’s name, and Starry Night, became Track Stars !
Secondly, as the painting portrays a starry night, I have used muted night time tones, of black, grey and cream for my background !
The painting also has a busy look, because of Van Goh’s exaggerated brush stroke style, so I took inspiration from that, using lots of rubons !
Did you also know that, Starry Night contains 11 stars ??? Bearing that in mind, so does my LO...7 chipboard, and 4 champion boys !!!
These boys will represent the entire North Sydney Region at the State Athletics Championships in October. Good luck boys !!!

Michelle an absolutely fantastic layout, love what you have done with all the chipboard and rubons, it really stands out.... Well done!! You must be very pleased with the result. Good luck boys, we all hope you win!! - Shazza

Lets take a look at Lisa Hanrahan's submission for September!

Lisa Hanrahan - Love

Here's what Lisa had to say...
I was inspired my Van Gogh's use of bold bright colours and tried to reflect this
by using yellow and different shades of blue. I used white bazzill as a base to
act as a canvas and I used flourishes to reflect the swirls and "movement" in
the night sky.

Beautiful layout Lisa, love how you used the florishes as swirls, I am really liking this color combo as well. Great take on the challenge - Shazza

Our Guest Design Team member for the month is.....

Lisa Lofthouse

Here is a little bit of information about Lisa and some of her layouts.

I'm a mother of a beautiful 18 month old boy who likes to think he runs the place! Happily married for 4 years to the love of my life. Started scrapping when I was preggers with Aiden. I wanted to leave him something to show him what type of person his mommy is. I have always loved being creative and have dabbled in every artform. I have found my niche in scrapbooking.

My favourite artist is Leonardo DA Vinci... A man after my own heart... An artist, a scientist, an inventor. As a highschool teacher I have often run lessons on his work to show that he was a man ahead of his time! My favourite piece of art by him is the Vitruvian Man which shows the perfection in the human body. Did you know he illegally performed Autopsies on dead people just to find out how the human body worked. If captured he could have been killed for heresy!

My blog addy is http://lisal79.blogspot.com/

My 4 fave LO's are......

Baby that's not Lawn

Jump in my Car

Everything about U

Passion

Please welcome Lisa to ARTastic and make her feel at home....

Lisa has also done a submission for the month on Van Gogh's - Starry Night,
can't wait to show you all her take.....

Cheers

The range of entries were very diverse, creative and inspiring. It was a difficult decision and I'm sure I went through the blog roll of everyone's layouts many times as did the Design Team members. To vote we used the 1st=3pt, 2nd= 2pt and 3rd = 1pt system!!

so...........

The SEPTEMBER winner of the
Kandinsky challenge

is

Judy Watson

with her entry - 'Flood'

Here are a few of the comments from the DT on Judy's winning entry!!
* I love her attention to detail and the
way she has composed all the elements in her layout.
* I voted for "Flood" because the layout was not a direct copy of Kandinsky, but you could clearly see the influence and her interpretation of his artwork. I also like the way she added different filters to the photos which means she went to alot of effort.

I was impressed with how many photos Judy included
and how well her LO not only captured Kandinsky,
but told her story as well.
Congratulations Judy and thanks for participating, your entry was fantastic and your win was well deserved , you have won a $10 store voucher donated by Uproar 2 Scrapmore - Shazza.

ARTist for September - Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky: (4th December 1866 – 13 December 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting the first modern abstract works.

Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa. He enrolled at the University of Moscow and chose to study law and economics. Quite successful in his profession—he was offered a professorship (chair of Roman Law) at the University of Dorpat—he started painting studies (life-drawing, sketching and anatomy) at the age of 30.

In 1896 he settled in Munich and studied first in the private school of Anton Azbe and then at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. He went back to Moscow in 1914 after World War 1 started. He was unsympathetic to the official theories on art in Moscow and returned to Germany in 1921. There he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in 1933. He then moved to France where he lived the rest of his life, and became a French citizen in 1939. He died at Neuilly-sur-seine in 1944.

The inspiration for your layouts will come from this sample of his abstract work
called 'On White II'

Another Fantastic Layout to share with you all, from..........

Tanya Soutar - Kandinsky in Love

This what Tanya had to say: I was inspired by Kandinsky's white on white to create a layout of hubby and I on our 10th anniversary, my inspiration started with a clock from Heidi Swapp, pulled straight from a mini book that I started in a lesson by Heidi herself! when she was her in Melbourne dec 08. I was challenged by the colour scheme and tried to achieve something a bit unique, I used my new gel medium and inked over the top, I used staples, bazzill paper and library pocket, more heidi bits n pieces, black velvet ribbon (a fav) and also Stampin' Up! ribbon and paper, I doodled and also added rub-ons. I am happy with the end result, enjoy!

Hi Tanya, this is fantastic, great pic and great title. It has the Kaninsky feel to it that is for sure, you have really done Kandinsky justice, no wonder you are happy with the end result! Good luck in the voting! - Cheers Shazza

Here's another creative layout from......

Ashley Holloway - Girly Kandinsky

This is what Ashley said on her blog.........I decided to make a layout for the My Kandinsky Interpretation...using all Girly Products...nail polish, mirror, makeup, eyelashes etc...

I just kept turning the painting around and around and I saw a shape like a hand held mirror in the Kandinsky painting...the blue piece behind the main square...and it just went from there...

This is really creative and very unique, what a great idea to use makeup as embellishments and for the geometric shapes.... I'm really impressed - Shazza

Only two more days to get your entries in for a chance to win some great prizes.
