Welcome to our January guest ...

We welcome our January guest designer, Tone Jensen,  all the way from snowy Norway.

I really love her interpretation of our artwork this month - her bright and colourful layout just screams "Boy".

I was inspired by the colors, paint and the boys.

Hi,  My name is Tone K. Jensen and I live in Norway under 20 minutes drive north of the capitol Oslo. I am 46 years old live with my husband and son (14 years old). I also have a stepdaughter (29 years old).

I've always taken pictures and put them in albums, but  I have been scrapping since 2004. The last two or three years I have also started making cards and I have relatively recently start with PL pages. I guess I am one of few that scrap everything and chronologically. But I love it, although I have only come to 2007 J (With PL everything goes much faster though).

Scrapping is my way to retrieve energy and relax.  I do not know if I have any special style and if I have I do not quite know what category it falls under. I'm very fond of using stencil and mist and make LO with layers.  Otherwise I use far too much time surfing around in the blogworld, but that's where I get inspiration.

Please visit me on my blog

Here are some more examples of Tone's lovely work.

Thank you so much for guesting with us on ARTastic this month Tone and inspiring us with your beautiful work.

Remember ....

You still have time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

Our second team reveal for January ...

It's the 15th and this means it's time for some gorgeous inspiration from our remaining design team using this wonderful inspiration by Fintan Magee.

This is a free scrap with no set criteria so make of it as you will but don't forget to tell us what inspired you about the painting - the brickwork, the super hero costumes, the little boys, the colours ... whatever you like.

Let's see what the team made of it ...

WENDY
I have lots of photos of street art but I decided to use two photos of street art in Melbourne city. I also love the idea of using a brick wall as the background.

MARY
The scene of these cute little super hero's reminded me of street art and that is where I have taken my inspiration from. I remembered I had taken a photo of a mural at Bondi Beach and thought it would be perfect for this challenge. That is what I love about challenges, I probably would never have scrapped this otherwise, and now I am happy that I did.

DI
For my layout this month, I've mainly used the brick wall for my inspiration. To get a grungier effect, I've used a background with various inks and sprays and stenciled with gesso. Once this was dry I used a wall stencil over the top and also added some cardboard which was embossed and inked. Washi tape  and stamps have also been used. The photo is of a beautiful mosaic mural on a wall of a building in Dorrigo.

STINA

I did two tags for this month. I was inspired by the colours  and the brick wall. I have decorated with a lot of chipboard, including a brick wall and a lantern.  The big flower I made myself and you can find a tutorial in this month's  3T's.

TONE-LILL
It was the little boys in costumes that caught my eyes. I found some old photos from my son's carnival day in pre-school. The brick wall from the inspiration picture inspired to make my own brick wall on my page.

Hope you will find some inspiration and want to play along with our challenge :)

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see what you can do ...

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions.  All we ask is that you create a new entry for our challenge although you are most welcome to combine with a sketch and/or colour challenge if you wish.  You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

Please pop back on the 22nd for our delightful guest designer this month, Tone Jenson.  I think you will love her work.

January 3T's and some December winners ...

I will be announcing our December winners shortly but first I would like to introduce you to our first Tips, Tricks and Techniques segment of 2015 presented by our delight creative team member, Stina Westbom.

Hi!

Today I would like to show you how to easily make your own fabric flowers. You can do them in many different variations and colours. I chose to do mine plain white so that I can colour them later if I want.

The only things you need are some fabric, a round circle, a glue gun and a center piece.
I started by folding the fabric in half and then I cut strips along the entire length. How long a piece you need depends on how big a flower you want to do. The easiest way is to try it out.

Then you put some glue around the circle and begin attaching the fabric around the circle's edge.

Once you have done a lap proceed only on the next. Then proceed inwards until you are satisfied.

Glue on some embellishment in the middle of the flower. I have used some metal flowers and a flat back pearl. Now your flower is ready to be used. If you want you can easily colour the flower with different kinds of mists.

I also made a flower where I continued with fabric strips all the way to the middle.

Thanks for visiting us today! And good luck making your own flowers!

Wow - these look stunning Stina.  I hope this has inspired all of you to create some for yourselves.  Not only do they look amazing they are but a fraction of the cost of the store bought variety.

and now onto some winners .....

Thursday 1 January 2015

Hello January, it's a brand new year ...

Welcome to a brand new year on ARTastic.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and has celebrated, eaten and drunk themselves happily into 2015.

Just a little housekeeping before we get started on our first challenge for 2015.

This year we will have two main prize packs, one from Mystical Scrapbooks and the other from Flourish with a Bling - these winners will be selected by Creative Team vote and by myself.  Each month we will also have another prize pack where the winner is selected purely by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience.  All these prizes will be available to anyone, no matter your country of residence.

This year we are moving our winner announcement to the 8th of the month before we introduce our monthly Creative team member hosted Tips, Tricks and Techniques.  Our second team reveal will be on the 15th and our guest designer will be introduced on the 22nd.

This year is going to be a great year, I can feel it.

We start off with this really delightful street art by Fintan Magee.  Aren't these little guys adorable!

This is a free scrap with no set criteria so make of it as you will but don't forget to tell us what inspired you about the painting - the brickwork, the super hero costumes, the little boys, the colours ... whatever you like.

A little about Fintan Magee ...

Fintan Magee is an Australian street artist known for his murals throughout Queensland and later in New South Wales.
Magee grew up in Queensland and gained a reputation as a graffiti artist before obtaining a Fine Arts degree and moving to Sydney. He now works out of "The Tate Gallery" above the Toxteth Hotel in Glebe. He received national acclaim for his mural depicting Felix Baumgartner in Brisbane. Described as "Australia's Banksy", Magee's work is recognised for its lack of a political message, compared to other street artists, and its humour.
Along with other recognised street artists from around Australia, Magee contributed to Toowoomba's "First Coat" program.

This month I would also like to introduce you to a brand new member of our design team, Jo Tritton.  Jo guested with us in October and we are delighted to welcome her back as part of our 2015 team.

My inspiration came from the brick wall & the colours. Also the touch of graffiti.

I’ve taken the idea of the brick background, & found this photo which I thought had a similar look to the superheroes in the inspiration piece.  Loved the natural tones with the pop of colour, so I used that idea as well.

The little super hero's sitting in a line in front of a brick wall  inspired me to use these 4 photos in a line using a brick mask as the background.

ELAINE
I have gone with the hero theme and created a page of my son, who is my hero. He has Autism and each day is a challenge for him. I have used the colours of the boys in the painting, but swapped the red for orange. I crocheted some embellishments for this page. I enjoy using other crafts on my pages; that the kids can look at their pages and see a bit of me in them :-).

HELENE
I was inspired by the masquerade theme and the brick wall.

JANE

The four little boys lined up in costume reminded so much of these three boys lined up in costume that I just had to do a page depicting a rare school dress-up moment.

And now it is your turn ......
