Please welcome our October guest ...

Please welcome our delightful guest designer this month, Louise Turner with her wonderful layout inspired by our artwork and pink challenge for October.

Hello there, I'm Louise of TimelessCraftMumma blog.

After a break from Scrapping I rejoined the online world in 2014 and love the community that is Papercrafting. My twin boys are my main reason for scrapbooking but I also enjoy the therapy of creating art.
My style varies - sometimes I like paper and sometimes I'm heavy with the mediums. But you will always see layers on my pages.

I love to watch YouTube videos of scrappers completing pages so I started my own YouTube channel where I share my process for creating.

You can find me here:

Here are couple of recent favourite pages ...

Thank you so much for joining us this month Louise and inspiring us with your work.

Remember ....

CRITERIA - The colour PINK

You still have time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  All details are on the blog sidebar. We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

Our second October reveal ...

Welcome to our mid month reveal.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month here in Australia which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.   I am sure there are few of us who have not been touched by breast cancer in some way amongst our families, friends, neighbours and work colleagues.  So this month we are using PINK on our entries in support of this cause. I urge each and every one of you to be vigilant in your self awareness and care - early detection saves lives.  If you would like to make a donation to this great cause you can do so HERE or HERE.

Introducing Chris Hobel with Rose Pink.
CRITERIA - The use of PINK

ANNA
My inspiration is the color pink and the roses.

MARY
I have used pink and the pattern paper has roses on it and I also added a rose stencil in the corner. After the initial shock of being diagnosed with Breast Cancer , our Daughter in law focused on getting through surgery, chemo and getting well. She did so with strength, courage and grace. Last day of Chemo was a happy day for her and she is doing really well now

KAREN
Such a beautiful painting. My inspiration is the beautiful roses and the colour pink.

KAT
The painting reminded me of the flowers in my sister's wedding bouquet so I made a BTP album about her wedding day.

TONE
I was inspired by the feminine theme.

ANGELIKA
I was inspired by the roses to do a layout about visiting the rose garden at Hyde park in London. I love roses!

JANE
I was inspired by the colours in the painting and those in the photo I used.

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see your own interpretation ...

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions. All we ask is that you create something new for our challenge and only combine your entry with a sketch challenge. We offer two prizes determined by team vote and one other prize selected purely by random draw - so anyone can be a winner regardless of style or level of experience. You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

Please pop back on the 22nd when we introduce you to our October Guest Designer.

September winners and our October tutorial ...

I will be announcing our September winners shortly but first I would like to introduce you to our October Tips, Tricks and Techniques brought to you by team member Kat Gray.

Beyond the Page mini album by Kat Gray

I love making mini albums to document special events, such as birthdays or weddings. The roses from the inspirational image reminded me of the flowers from my sister’s recent wedding so I made a mini album about the day. I used papers and embellishments from the Crate Paper Bloom collections, which has lots of lovely vintage and floral elements and lots of pretty pink papers.

Choose an album and a set of papers big enough to cover the pages (my album was a little bigger than 6” so I used a 12x12” paper pad but you could also use a smaller album and a 6” paper pad).

Use a piece of fine sandpaper to lightly sand the surfaces and dust with a dry cloth.

Add a couple of coats of gesso and acrylic paint to the surfaces that won’t be covered by the paper, including the outside edges and around the holes. I use empty thread spools as stands when drying the pages.

When the pages are ready to be covered with paper, prepare the paper by punching a set of holes that line up with the holes in the album page. I usually lay the page against the back of the paper and use a pencil to mark where the holes are.

Apply adhesive (e.g. PVA glue or Mod Podge) to the album page being sure to cover the entire surface, especially at the edges and corners. This is important for preventing the papers from peeling away from the album at a later date. Press the paper firmly over the top, cover with a heavy book and allow to dry completely.

Once the glue has completely dried, use a sharp craft knife to trim the paper around the edges of the album page.

Repeat step 5 and 6 for the other side of the page.

Once paper has been added to both sides of each page, add a couple of coats of a paper sealer (e.g. Mod Podge), being sure to cover the edges. This will also help prevent the papers from coming away from the album at a later date. Let dry completely.

Decorate your pages. I used more patterned paper, doilies, organza, paper flowers, chipboard stickers and the pins from my sister’s bouquet.

Use album rings to join your finished pages into an album.

Decorate the album rings using different trim such as tassels, beads and ribbon.

Here's a few more pictures of my finished album.

Oh my goodness - how stunning is this?  Just so beautiful.  Thank you Kat!!

Introducing Chris Hobel with Rose Pink

CRITERIA - The use of PINK

A little about Chris Hobel

Colour and texture are my prime motivation for painting‚ I love it. Living close to the beach‚ the changing natural environment provides a wealth of vistas for my creative explorations using all manner of materials for application of both acrylic‚ oil paint‚ combined with traditional drawing materials such as charcoal‚ ink‚ pencil and oil pastels and collage. I enjoy the tactile nature of impasto materials‚ it has led me to use the palette knife more and more to achieve to goals. Often I start my paintings with very thin paint and slowly build the layers and finishing with very thick textures. Chris has won many awards‚ published dozens of magazine instructional articles‚ sold hundreds of paintings world wide and continues to enjoy teaching her enthusiastic painters.

And now some amazing inspiration from the first of our team ...

HELENE
Inspired by the pink and flowers.

SUE
My inspiration is the colour pink and a rose.

AN'JENIC
Focusing on the pink.

MARIA
Pink - the color  for the girls, it inspires me! Title - childhood.

LIZZY
the main inspiration being the flowers & the quote I felt fitted well with it being Breast Cancer Awareness month, too

ELAINE
I love roses, they are so pretty and I wanted to capture that in my page. I based my page around the rose paper I used.

TRACEY
I love when the painting takes me to arty side as well. I finger painted onto the background some flowers and then added dimension to them with medical gauze rolled up. I was happy with the vintage style of the layout to suit the old photo.
