Welcome to December ...

Our December inspiration comes to you from Lisa Frances Judd with Candy Cane Owl.

CRITERIA -  Christmas theme

A little about Lisa Frances Judd ...

My name is Lisa Frances Judd and I am a Blue Mountains Artist from Wimalee NSW, Australia. From the moment I could hold a crayon I have been drawing and painting. Love of art is in my blood as my Mother is also an Artist. Although my Mother went through Art School, I am self taught and have developed my own distinctive style over many years based on my passion for colour, pattern and my own vivid imagination.

Over the years, I have participated in numerous group and solo art exhibitions, including one at The Pine Street Gallery, Chippendale, Sydney that was featured in The Sydney Morning Herald’s Spectrum Section in 2013. That same year I was included in the ‘Undiscovered’ feature of Art Collector Magazine and included in Art Edit.

And now some inspiration from our team ...

Merry Christmas. I took inspiration from the red and white candy cane and it was perfect that our little Christmas Owl had a Santa hat on too.

Jane Howden - Australia
I was inspired by the colours in the artwork, the stripes on the candy cane and the snowflakes in the background - I even managed to add in a little owl !

A little about Arthur Baker Clack ...

Arthur Baker-Clack was an Australian born painter who embraced the Post-Impressionist French style. After a short spell as a teacher in South Australia, Baker-Clack started a career as a journalist covering the Western Australia.

In 1906 Baker-Clack travelled to Paris to study painting, initially as a pupil of the Australian expatriate Kupert Bunny and then under the painter and sculptor Laurens. He found great inspiration from the modernist works of Cézanne and Seurat. His style reveals the impressionist influences of his Parisian studies, while demonstrating his skill in the use of colour which is employed with uncompromising vigour alongside a certain boldness and directness in the lines. The result creates richly toned and forceful pictures.

Throughout his life, Baker-Clack exhibited both in London at the Royal Academy of Arts and in Paris. His work is held in many public collections in Australia.

And now some inspiration from our team ...

Tone Jensen - Norway
No automatic alt text available.
The photo is of my son standing by the sea in Hurghada, Egypt. We found some dead fish in the sea (the little photo) and therefore I have used fish-bone chipboard on the bottom of my page and I have used a script stamp to ink my background.

Kat Gray - Australia
Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling
For my take on the challenge, I created a painted background inspired by the colours in the artwork; especially the blues, teals, purples and silver.

Sharon Bishop - Australia
I used watered down ink and took the sea in the background and green foliage as my inspiration from the photo. This is our travelling Gnome in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in 2006.

Karen McLaughlin - Australia
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling
I have used paint and ink on the chipboard.

Tanya Heritage - Australia
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling
I liked the water and buildings in the painting so chose a photo of my daughter in Florence Italy with water and buildings behind her.

Karen Brierley - Australia
Image may contain: outdoor
My artwork inspiration was using scenery photographs. I created my background by using a piece of corrugated cardboard to apply acrylic paint across the page.

Jane Howden - Australia
The painting held a real holiday vibe for me so I have used some happy vacation snaps of our trip to Tasmania a few years ago.  There is no patterned paper on this layout - my background was created using ink and stickers.

Our main prize winner this year will be selected by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience or your country of residence. If there are more than 8 entries in the month a second prize (donated each month by one of our team) will be drawn.

A little about Lyn Butchart ...

Lyn Butchart draws her inspiration from the vibrant, textural and ethereal spirit of nature.

Born in 1951 in Manildra NSW of Aboriginal Irish Swedish descent, Lyn has developed a unique individual style ranging from contemporary to abstract. Her fascination with the ocean inspires intricate underwater scenes, a theme she is renowned for.  She undertakes extremely large works on paper, some of the largest in Australia, and incorporates strong vibrant colours that bring harmony and balance to her paintings.  Lyn is a self taught artist with over 25 years tutoring experience. She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, and her work is held in private and corporate collections worldwide. Her work has also been featured in numerous national art magazines featuring watercolour and mixed media works.

Lyn lives and works in Grafton northern New South Wales, and travels frequently to conduct workshops in regional areas around Australia.

And now some inspiration from our team ...

This month we say goodbye to DT member Judy Willey. We all wish her the very best for the future and thank her for her amazing contribution and dedication to ARTastic as part of our design team.  We will be thinking of you Judy.

We'd like to welcome Sharon Bishop back to our little team.  Shazza's work is amazing and I am sure you will be inspired by what she creates for us.

Judy Willey - Australia
I have chosen green as my colour theme for this layout, using green mist and patterned papers.

Karen McLaughlin - Australia

Tanya Heritage - Australia
This was actually tricky doing a monochromatic layout. Just makes you realise how many colours you actually do put on a layout. I liked the textured look of all the peacock feathers so I textured my whole layout using old chipboard letters.

Tone Jensen - Norway
Cute as can be - I really like this photo of Daniel.....he looks a little mischievous here. I was inspired by the feathers.

Kat Gray - Australia
(Having a break this month but will be back with us in November)

Karen Brierley - Australia
After wavering between green and brown for this layout, I finally settled on monochromatic brown tones. The peacock in the inspiration piece prompted me to add a bird to the design.

Sharon Bishop - Australia
I went with pale blues and I also added a peacock.

Jane Howden - Australia
I decided to do something a little different and got out my container of washi and put them to good use!

Our main prize winner this year will be selected by random draw - so anyone could be a winner, no matter your style or your level of experience or your country of residence. If there are more than 8 entries in the month a second prize (donated each month by one of our team) will be drawn.
